T1 questions, answered
The questions we get most often during personal tax season.
-
When is the T1 deadline for 2025 income?
April 30, 2026 for most Canadians. If you or your spouse had self-employment income, the filing deadline moves to June 15, 2026, but any balance owing is still due April 30, 2026. -
My T4 or T5 slips have not arrived yet. Can we still start?
Yes. We start once you book in. CRA Auto-fill My Return pulls most slips by mid-March, and we follow up on anything still missing. -
What if I owe instead of getting a refund?
You pay CRA directly. We confirm the exact amount and the safest payment method. Setting up an installment plan is straightforward if cash flow is tight. -
Can you file prior years I missed?
Yes. We file back as many years as needed. Where penalties or interest may apply, we discuss the Voluntary Disclosures Program before filing so you know your options. -
How are capital gains taxed right now?
For most personal returns, 50 percent of net capital gains are included in taxable income. We track the latest CRA rules and apply whatever is in effect for the tax year you are filing. -
How long until I get my refund?
For returns filed online with direct deposit set up, CRA typically issues refunds within two weeks. We confirm direct deposit details before filing so there is no delay.
